I heard that the panel for this monitor is cheap and has a lot of issues. Given how highly rated and expensive this monitor is, I'm wondering if it's just my unit and I should RMA it. The Dell has outstanding uniformity, color, and brightness and contrast.Īll in all, my experience with this monitor has been disappointing. They did say uniformity can vary between units so mine must have crappy uniformity. One other thing I noted was that whites are extremely bright on my QM.Īll four edges seem notably dimmer than the center most area of the screen, even on higher brightness settings, causing the image to look more washed out in affected areas. When I look at that monitor after spending time on this one, my eyes feel instant relief. I have the brightness on the Dell set to 50. I never had eye fatigue with the Q or my second monitor (Dell UP2716D). I've also played around with the contrast to no avail. If I set the brightness any lower the picture quality suffers greatly, and it still bothers my eyes. I've tried it with the lights off and on. When I look at this monitor it's like looking at the second coming of Christ. I have the brightness set to 35, and even that gives me eye fatigue. I barely spent any time getting my Q's picture quality looking good. I didn't notice any change in picture quality. Also, in NVIDIA control panel I tested out all the output color depths (8, 10, and 12 bpc) with output dynamic range set to full and limited. I tested wide gamut, but it made everything way too vibrant. I spent hours messing around with the settings until I finally settled on a user mode color temp of R 90, G 90, B 100, NVIDIA gamma of 0.90, and variable backlight set to off. As a last resort, I installed the drivers and color profile. I even connected the monitor to my work laptop. I made sure to reset all the color settings in NVIDIA control panel and Windows color management. I chose to keep the monitor in sRGB mode during the initial set up.

The first thing I noticed was how washed out and overly warm the image looked out of the box. This week I got the QM and was extremely disappointed when I got it all set up. Excellent picture quality, great response times, native G-SYNC support. Reviewers like RTINGS and most users seem to have nothing but good things to say about it (except for the price tag).

Based on my research, the QM seemed like a quality monitor. I recently upgraded to this monitor from my trusty PG279Q because the PG279Q started developing very bad light bleed and other panel issues.
